How we vet providers: we review the reviews
A star rating alone can be misleading. Before a plumbing business can receive requests from GTA Plumber Match, it has to pass every check below. Only plumbers who pass are matched with homeowners, and we re-check them regularly.
Our criteria
- At least 4.5★ on Google.
- 50 or more Google reviews, so the rating reflects a real track record.
- Review-quality analysis. We look past the average at:
- Recency: are recent customers still happy?
- Consistency: is the rating steady over time, or slipping?
- Response to complaints: does the owner reply to negative reviews and try to fix problems?
- Suspicious patterns: bursts of short, similar, or brand-new-account reviews are flagged and filtered out of our assessment.
- What reviewers say: punctuality, upfront pricing and emergency response count for a plumber; no-shows, surprise charges and damage count against.
- Licensing and insurance confirmed. Plumbing is a compulsory trade in Ontario. Providers must confirm their plumbers hold valid Certificates of Qualification, which we check against Skilled Trades Ontario's public register, and provide a current certificate of liability insurance.
- A score of 65 or higher out of 100 on our scoring model, which combines the signals above with how homeowners we've referred rate the outcome.
What can get a provider removed
- Their score drops below 65, their rating drops below 4.5★, or their insurance lapses.
- Repeated complaints from homeowners we referred, such as no-shows or charges that didn't match the quote.
Who pays us, and why it doesn't buy a better score
We're free for homeowners. Providers may pay us a referral fee, and paying partners may be offered requests first. Payment is never an input to the score and never gets a plumber past the criteria above.
